Born on the 11th of September 1984 in London, Rees began playing rugby at Harriet Costello Secondary School (now The Costello School) in 1996. He was also a part of the team of youth players of Basingstoke RFC the following year. Under the tutelage by Andy Bloodworth (of Chineham RFC) and Dave Luff, Rees progressed in the game, initially in the center before becoming a flanker on the open side. Rees was then selected for England U16s, in which he was named player of the year. This was this led to him being offered invitations from a variety of Grammar schools. He decided to go to The Royal Grammar School in High Wycombe. Rees continued to be a part of England U18s, and later U19s, where he was the top choice openside flanker on both sides. Then, he signed with London Wasps on an academy contract. Two years, and just breaking into first-team the club, he was given a first-team contract and he signed it again with a two-year agreement.
Rees was a representative of England A in the early 2006 against Ireland A in the early part of the year.
Rees made his full England debut on 3 February 2007 against Scotland, coming on as a substitute for Joe Worsley. Rees started his first game in the 26–18 victory against France on 11 March 2007 and was awarded the RBS Man of The Match Award by Brian Moore. Rees also started the next game against Wales.
With Wasps he won both the Heineken Cup in 2007 and the 2008 Guinness Premiership title, scoring a try in the latter final.
Rees played for the England U21 side at the Six Nations Championship but was not included in the elite England team for the autumn internationals in 2005 because of a knee strain he sustained in the Zurich Premiership semi-finals.

Thomas Rees (born 11 September 1984) is a former union rugby footballer who was the flanker position for London Wasps and has represented England at the senior, Under-21 as well as at the Under-19, Under-18, and under-16 levels as and sevens. He declared his retirement due to constant injuries on March 10th, 2012.
Rees suffered a series of injuries throughout the 2005-06 campaign, but after his return, he put in impressive results at Wasps and earned him a place on the entire England team following his performance in England in all age groups likely.

Despite starting in the following game against South Africa Rees failed to make another appearance during the 2007 World Cup. A thigh injury kept him out of the matches against Tonga and Samoa and during this time Lewis Moody claimed the number 7 shirt for the remainder of the tournament.
