He made his first-class appearance for Western Province during the 2015 Vodacom Cup; he started their second game in the league against the Sharks XV. He added his very first goal in the game, going down shortly after the half- time break in the 32-12 win over their Durban counterparts. He also took part in a 19-13 win against their rivals the Eastern Province Kings in Port Elizabeth.

In April 2015, he was included in a South African Under-20 squad to tour Argentina as final preparation prior to the 2015 World Rugby Under 20 Championship: He scored a try in their 25–22 victory over Argentina in the first match and played the full 80 minutes of the second match.

Prior to the 2019 season, Hermanus moved to Kimberley to join Griquas.

After graduating from high school Hermanus was a member of in the Western Province Rugby Institute in 2014. He was a part of the Western Province U19 side that took part in the 2014 Provincial Championship. He played in eight games for the team during their regular seasons of tournament and scored two tries in their Round Eight game in the Round Eight match against Blue Bulls U19 – to enable them to qualify to play in the semifinals. He was the first player to score a 29-22 win against Free State U19 in the semi-finals. He also was on the winning side in the final with his team finishing 33-26 winners over Blue Bulls U19 in the final at Cape Town.

Hermanus was chosen as a representative of Western Province at the premier South African rugby union competition for high schools under 18 years old, the Under-18 Craven week in 2012 located in Port Elizabeth. He played three times and scored a score during their match in the match against South Western Districts.

He didn’t play in their semi-final match against England, which they lost 20–28 to be eliminated from the competition by England for the second year in succession, but did come on as a replacement in their third-place play-off match against France, helping South Africa to a 31–18 win to secure third place in the competition.
