William Carne (born 23 January 1969) is an Australian former footballer from the sport of rugby who played in the rugby league of the Brisbane Broncos from 1990 to 1996. Carne was one of seven Broncos players on the Australian team on the day, along with Hancock, Renouf, Langer and Prop forward Glenn Lazarus and replacements Kevin Walters and Chris Johns (who did not make it off the reserve bench for the final).
He played for the Brisbane Broncos in the 1992 NSWRL season’s grand final against the St. George Dragons, which they won. A week after winning the 1992 Rugby League World Cup Final, Carne played for the Broncos on the wing in the 1992 World Club Challenge against British champions Wigan, with Brisbane winning 22-8 to become the first Australian club to win the match in Britain.
Carne was the Broncos’ top try scorer in 1993, crossing the line for 17 tries, and enjoyed back-to-back premierships, playing on the wing in the Grand Final victory, again over St. George.
Carne made his debut as a test player in the national team of Australia at the start of the 2nd match in the Trans-Tasman Test Series against New Zealand at the Sydney Football Stadium. He scored a try during the match as Australia defeat New Zealand 44-0. He was later able to keep his place in the squad for the final test in Lang Park in Brisbane, scoring two scores. In the final stages of the 1991 season Carne traveled to Papua New Guinea with the Kangaroos scoring three attempts in both matches against the Papua New Guinea Kumuls and completed the five-game tour as the highest scorer in tries, with

Carne played the State of Origin debut for Queensland in the third game of the series in 1990.
