Randy John Velischek, a former Canadian professional ice hockey defenseman, was born February 10, 1962. He played ten seasons in Canada’s National Hockey League, from 1982-83 to 1991-92, for the New Jersey Devils and Minnesota North Stars. The North Stars drafted Randy Velischek 53rd in the 1980 NHL Entry Draft. He played 509 NHL games in his career, scoring 21 goals as well as 97 points.
Velischek was a middle school coach and German teacher at Pingry School from 2007-08. Velischeck, the high school boy’s ice hockey coach at Morristown- Beard School was hired on June 11, 2009. Velischek, in addition to his coaching duties at Morristown-Beard School was also the hockey director for Twin Oaks Ice Rink, Morristown, New Jersey. He also runs RJV Hockey School.
He was also the head coach of the Metropolitan Riveters of the National Women’s Hockey League for the 2018–19 season.
Alex Velischek was Randy’s son and was drafted by Pittsburgh Penguins in fifth round (123rd overall), in 2009 NHL Draft. Alex played four years of college hockey at Providence, just like his father. Alex played professional hockey with the Wheeling Nailers and Missouri Mavericks of the ECHL as well as the Arizona Sundogs in the Central Hockey League. Randy was the hockey director for the Ramapo Saints Tier 1,2 and 3 hockey program. He also has a son Anders, and a daughter Abbey.

Velischek was born in Montreal, Quebec. He was a young player in the 1974 and 1975 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournaments. His junior hockey career was spent with the Lac St-Louis Lions, Quebec Amateur Hockey Association, and the Verdun Eperviers, Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Velischek finished his junior hockey career with the Lac St-Louis Lions of Quebec Amateur Hockey Association. He played four years of college hockey at Providence Friars in 1979-1983, majoring in French and business. He graduated with high honors.
Velischek was a broadcaster for New Jersey Devils from 1995 to 2006.
On September 20, 2018, he was named the head coach of the Metropolitan Riveters of the National Women’s Hockey League, based of Newark, New Jersey, and the New Jersey Devils’ practice facility. He was not retained for the 2019–20 season after the Devils severed ties with the Riveters. Now Velischek serves as the assistant coach for the Northern Highlands Regional High School Ice Hockey Team.
