Randy Holt is one of the most popular and richest Ice Hockey Player who was born on January 15, 1953 in Pembroke, Wales, United Kingdom. Stewart Randall Holt, a former Canadian professional ice hockey defenseman, was born January 15, 1953. He spent ten seasons with the National Hockey League (NHL). He is still the NHL single-game record holder for penalty minutes.
Holt, the toughest player in the Los Angeles Kings’, was acquired midway through 1978-79 to increase the strength of a talented Kings team. He was also expected to play a major role when the team went to Philadelphia to face the Flyers. Holt was penalized 20 minutes for fighting Frank Bathe, Philadelphia’s enforcer, after picking up a minor penalty in the first period. Holt felt he was the victim of a cheap shot by Ken Linseman, Flyers’ agitator, earlier in the game. He then started a bench-clearing fight to try and settle the score with Linseman. Holt was also assessed 45 minutes of penalties, including a triple-game misconduct, for his actions in the brawl. This brought his total to 67, breaking the 1968 NHL record of 48. The league also suspended him for three games.
After another season in Los Angeles, Holt was traded to the Calgary Flames for the 1980–81 season. He played some of the best hockey of his career in the 1981 playoffs, recording 2 goals and 4 points in 13 games to help the Flames reach the Stanley Cup semi-finals. For the 1981–82 season, he was dealt to the Washington Capitals, where he set a club record with 250 penalty minutes. He broke his own record with a league-leading 275 penalty minutes the following season, and also appeared in a career-high 70 games, recording 8 assists. He closed out his career with a 26-game stint for the Philadelphia Flyers in 1983–84 before retiring.
Holt was traded to the Cleveland Barons shortly after the 1977-78 season began. He finally got a chance to stay in the NHL full time. Holt finished the season with one goal, four assists and 249 penalty minutes. The Barons ended operations at the end of the season and Holt was taken by the Vancouver Canucks as part of the dispersal draft.
