Salwa Eid Naser is one of the most popular and richest Sprinter who was born on May 23, 1998 in Onitsha, Bahrain. Salwa Eid Naser (nee Ebelechukwu Agbapuonwu, born 23 May 1998) is a Nigerian born Bahraini athlete who specializes in the 400m. Her 2019 record is World Champion in the event with a personal record time that is 48.14 seconds, making her the very first Asian woman to win the race in the World Championships. Her personal best puts her third on the 400 meters all-time record, with just Marita Koch (47.60) and Jarmila Kratochvilova (47.99). She won the gold medal in the 2015 World Youth Championships in Athletics as well as the 2015 Military World Games and was awarded an award of silver at 2017’s World Championships. She was the 2018 gold medalist at the Asian Games, held in Jakarta, Indonesia with games record of 50.09 seconds.
Naser started working with the former Bulgarian player Yanko Bratanov. He also worked with fellow athlete from Nigerian Bahraini Kemi Adekoya, and Samuel Francis (both later banned for doping) . In the beginning of 2015, she set records for national juniors for juniors of 11.70 seconds for 100m as well as 23.03 seconds in the 200m in Bulgaria. She established herself as the best runner on the continent in her age category by winning gold during the 2014 Asian Youth Athletics Championships. She also proved she was among the best in the world during the 2014 World Youth Championships in Athletics. An endurance run helped her surpass the much-loved American Lynna Irby during the final stage of the race. She set a record in the time period of 51.50 seconds to win victory with the medal. Wearing a hijab the final was held just after Ramadan and let her eat normal prior to the race, having fasted throughout those qualifying races. Gold medals made her only the second Bahraini woman to take home an international title, following the senior world record holder Maryam Yusuf Jamal. Her shrewd running style was lauded by world record-holder in decathlon Ashton Eaton, who invited her to join him on an all-expenses expense trip with Ashton Eaton for three consecutive days.
Naser was the first woman to win a Senior title during Naser won her senior debut at 2015 Military World Games in October. born Ebelechukwu Agbapuonwu located in Anambra State, Nigeria, to Nigerian parents. Salwa Eid Naser started running when she was eleven years old in school. She then started to focus on the 400-meter distance. She was the 2013 Schools Champion in Port Harcourt. She was in 2014 when she changed her allegiance to Bahrain and changed her religion to Islam changing her name. She was first coached at the time in Bahrain under Nigerian former ex-pat John George Obeya. In response to questions about her transition into the country of her birth, she said she was satisfied about the change and didn’t want to discuss her relationship to Nigeria’s Athletics Federation of Nigeria, declaring “I have nothing to say to the AFN”.
In Riffa within the Bahrain’s Central Governorate, she had her first victory during the 2013 Arab Junior Athletics Championships, in which she was the gold medalist in the 200 m and 400 meters. After this win the athlete began to consider her sport seriously and achieved a new record of 54.50 seconds during the Asian Trials for the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics. She gradually improved her time even more at the Youth Olympics, recording 53.95 seconds in the initial round before winning the silver medal, just behind the Australian’s Jessica Thornton with a much faster speed in 52.74 seconds.
She won the silver medal at the 2017 World Championships with a personal best time of 50.04, being beaten only by Phyllis Francis, after winning the heats and the semi-finals, each time improving her personal best. Two years later, she became the World Champion in Doha, the youngest ever winner of that title in the 400 metres event. She improved her personal best, set one year earlier, by 0.94 and her result, 48.14, has been the fastest since 1985 (when Marita Koch set the world record) and the second fastest at the World Championships (only behind Jarmila Kratochvílová who ran 47.99 in Helsinki 35 years earlier).
