Shaw was named as one of the eighteen para-athletes who would represent England at this year’s Commonwealth Games, which were to be held in Australia’s Gold Coast. In January 2018, Shaw visited a Tenerife training center to prepare for the Games.

Later that year he made his first Great Britain squad for the IPC Athletics World Championships, where he finished sixth in both the 100 metres and 200 metres. Shaw began training in November 2013 to prepare for his entry in the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro. He joined Cleethorpes Athletic Club. Zachary Shaw, born 24 September 1995, is a British blind sprinter. He competes in the T12/T13 disability categories. Stargardt disease was diagnosed at the age of nine. He began training in 2013 for the 2016 Paralympic Games, but was unsuccessful. Shaw was awarded silver at the UK School Games in 2014 for his 100m and 200m runs. He won bronze at the Berlin IPC Grand Prix in 2015.

Shaw won gold in three events in 2016, including the T13 200m at the Dubai IPC Grand Prix and the 100m in the BUCS Outdoor Athletics Championships. He also won the gold medal in the same discipline at Barcelona Kern Pharma – Sauleda. Along with 48 para-athletes, he was selected to represent Great Britain in the IPC Athletics European Championships at Grosseto in June. Shaw was seventh in the 100m and fifth in 200m (both in T13). Shaw was informed later that he would not be making the team for the Summer Paralympics despite his efforts. Shaw expressed his disappointment, but he stated that it was the beginning of a long journey.

In March 2017, he won the 200 metres event at that year’s Dubai IPC Grand Prix, and retained his title in the 100 metres discipline in the BUCS Outdoor Athletics Championships held the following month. Shaw competed in the London World Para Athletics Championships in July. Although Shaw was targeting a medal he came fourth in his semi-final for the 100 metres (T12) and his effort resulted in him failing to progress into the final. Nevertheless, he narrowly won his heat in the 200 metres (T12) which advanced him into the semi-finals with a new personal best of 22.73 seconds but failed to qualify for the final after placing second, behind Algeria’s.Nasser Djamil.
