At the end of June, 2005 Magne agreed to a 2-year deal for two years with London Irish. He joined his home squad, Stade Aurillacois, as young boy in 1979. Later, he participated in Brive as well as US Dax, before joining AS Montferrandaise for the 1999-2000 season.
He made his debut in the international test at 23 years old on February 15, 1997, in the place of Wales in the 1997 Five Nations Championship. The match was won 27-22 . France won the tournament by winning the Grand Slam. He played a prominent role in both the 1998 as well as the 2003 Rugby World Cups, taking part in all matches played by France during the two tournaments. The most memorable event of his career is probably that 1999 Rugby World Cup final, in which he played with a loss in the final as France were defeated 35-12. He was a regular member of Bernard Laporte’s squads, playing in all France’s matches in the 2004 Six Nations Championship. Magne played in the mid-year Tests against South Africa and Australia but missed the November internationals through injury. His last international appearances were against the All Blacks during France’s mid-year tour to New Zealand in June 2007. He was not selected in the French squad for the 2007 Rugby World Cup; he was placed on the reserve list but was not called upon.
