The second season of Khaira’s contract as an entry-level player, Khaira and the Oilers AHL affiliation changed to the newly formed Bakersfield Condors. In the year’s 2015-16 NHL campaign, Khaira received a call-up for the Oilers on the 26th of November 2015, and played in the first NHL contest with Pittsburgh Penguins. Pittsburgh Penguins on November 28 the 28th of November, 2015. This resulted in Khaira just the third person from Punjabi Indian descent to play in the NHL after Robin Bawa, and half-French Indian, half-French Manny Malhotra. Khaira was a part of 15 game at NHL at that time with two assists.

After his first season with the Huskies, Khaira left college to pursue a junior career close to home within the Western Hockey League with the Everett Silvertips. On the 7th of August 2013 he was appointed to a three-year, entry- level deal to the Edmonton Oilers. The following season, 2013-14, Khaira posted 43 points in 59 games played by the Silvertips. After being eliminated in the first round of the playoffs, Khaira was then able to make his debut as a professional with his Oilers AHL affiliate The Oklahoma City Barons, joining the team for their post-season campaign.
