Triggs began the 2010 season as a replacement for All-Black Tom Donnelly, Josh Bekhuis and Josh Bekhuis. However, he was forced to start the final eight matches of the season after a season-ending injury. He scored his first two Super Rugby tries and was selected for the New Zealand Maori team at year’s end.
In 2014 he was called into the Blues to replace the injured Culum Retallick.
After his performances for Manawatu, Triggs was offered the chance to compete in the Super 14 competition with the Hurricanes in 2007. However, he was only allowed to make one substitute appearance. He was a former member of the Hurricanes’ Wider Training Group. Triggs made 11 appearances in the Highlanders’ squad, including 7 starts, for 2008. Triggs was a fixture in all 13 Highlanders matches in 2009, with 10 starts.

Triggs, a former Army mechanic, was a long-time fixture in the Manawatu side. He earned 70 caps between 2002 & 2008. After being signed by the Highlanders in Super 14 Triggs was transferred to Otago and appeared in 13 matches in 2009. Triggs played in all 13 matches of the 2010 ITM Cup for Otago, scoring two tries. Triggs moved to Waikato after the 2010 season to be near his family on North Island.
Triggs was the first to be selected for the New Zealand Maori squad at the 2007 Churchill Cup tournament. He made three appearances in the tournament (Canada, Ireland A and England Saxons). Triggs was selected again for the Maori squad at the Pacific Nations Cup in 2008 but was forced to withdraw due to a stress fracture in his foot. Triggs was selected again to the New Zealand Maori’s 2010 Centenary Series. He scored a try on the Barbarians and was a part of the historic victories over England and Ireland.
For the 2011 Super Rugby season, Triggs transferred to the Chiefs. However, he found himself down the pecking order, and made only three appearances during the campaign.
