Goddard was the lead vocalist of Welsh Art Rock band Blaue Reiter which dropped a song in the year 1981 entitled “Where He Stands” on Orifice Records (catalogue number ROZ1) to acclaim of John Peel, marketed by Rough Trade Records in London. The group broke up in 1982, and Goddard relocated to London. He formed a band along with Steve Maguire called The Design Team and then was the The Knives’ lead vocalist The Knives (ex-Brigandage) from 1983 until 1987. In 1987, The Knives released one single, “The Lonely One” in the album compilation “Freedon To Rock” on Red Bus Records in 1986 in the midst of often sold out performances at venues such as the Marquee Club, and the Batcave in London. The band was renowned for its performance skills and range of voice, he received requests from bands such like Marillion as well as Frankie Goes To Hollywood for their slack lead vocals, calling them “dinosaurs unaware of the comet”.
