Yazmany Arboleda is one of the most popular and richest Installation Artist who was born on May 7, 1981 in Boston, Massachusetts, United States. Issey Myake, a Japanese fashion designer, presented the “New Vitruvians”, Arboleda’s first solo art show in New York City in May 2007. In the autumn of 2007, the exhibition was moved to London’s Imagination Gallery. Along with the ‘ball portraits,’ new ‘ball gowns’ were presented at the London exhibition.
His work is influenced largely by social, political and cultural circumstances. He has worked with an activist community in Kabul to distribute 10,000 pink balloons to adults every Monday morning in 2013. Arboleda developed a project called “Colour in Faith” where religious communities from across Kenya have joined forces to paint exteriors of temples, mosques and churches yellow. In the fall 2015, the project was nominated to the Disruption by Design (DxD).
He received his Master of Architecture degree from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. He has also completed art and design programs at Parson’s School of Design in New York City, Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya in Barcelona, and Istituto Marangoni in Milan and London. In 2014 he participated in the Juilliard School’s inaugural inter-arts program.
The New Vitruvians, a collection of large-scale artworks, offers a fresh, contemporary perspective on the themes of human beauty, and reveals truths about perceptions of physical ideals, and the social and cultural factors that influence them. The project’s name is derived from Leonardo da Vinci’s fundamental study of the human form and proportion, the Vitruvian man, which depicts a nude male figure in two superimposed positions inscribed in a circle and square.
The Keller Gates Project was initiated in response to the socio-political currents that were affecting the United States and New York’s contemporary art scene. It began on February 28th 2008. The project had two goals: To support and encourage a thorough and honest discussion on the important roles that race, gender, and sexual orientation play in American society and to speak directly to an arts world more concerned about how art can be monetized than what art is or could be.
