McCollum won Miss Island Resort in early 2013. This allowed her to compete in Miss New Jersey 2013. McCollum was crowned Miss New Jersey in June 2013 with her platform “Giving The Gift of Reading”. She promoted literacy among youth through her non-profit organization, “The Birthday Book Project,” which distributes gift-wrapped books to children in need of reading for their birthdays. She was a talented pianist, despite having a rare bone growth that made one of her fingers immobile. She also performed Calvin Jones’s “Whitewater Chopped Sticks” rendition.
McCollum was Miss New Jersey in Miss America 2014 as McCollum. McCollum donned a mermaid costume and flippers to the “Show Us Your Shoes” parade on the Atlantic City Boardwalk. The event was in memory of those who were affected by Hurricane Sandy.

McCollum earned her B.A. McCollum received her B.A. in English (with a focus in journalism) in June 2015. She took time off to finish Miss New Jersey 2013-2014.
McCollum is the daughter of Rick McCollum and Maureen Buckingham McCollum. She was born in Forrest City, Arkansas. McCollum graduated from Forrest City High School where she was named valedictorian. In 2010, she was named Arkansas Times Academic All-Star.
On February 15, 2016, McCollum was involved in a car accident. She was taken to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where she died on February 22, 2016, sixteen days after her 24th birthday.
