He was his 2013 World silver medalist and in 2010, the Four Continents silver medalist, and 2014 Japanese National Silver Medalist. Machida has been the winner in 4 Grand Prix events — the 2012 Cup of China, the 2013 Rostelecom Cup, Skate America, 2013 Rostelecom Cup and the 2014 Rostelecom Cup. Skate America.
The 2014-15 season was the first time Machida was selected for in the competitions of 2014 Skate America team and the 2013 Trophee Eric Bompard. After winning the second Skate America title, he was first in the short and free program and set personal bests in both. He also was able to win by 30 points over the second-place finalist, Jason Brown of the United States. Machida was winning his 4th GP title. The 2014 Trophee Eric Bompard Machida was 2nd in the shorter and the free program, finishing second overall, just behind Maxim Kovtun. He was then qualified for to compete in the Grand Prix Final for the third time in a row. After placing second in the short-course Machida struggled during the long program and finished sixth in that segment as well as overall. Machida was fourth in the 2014-15 Japan Championships and was selected for the 2015 World team. He announced his decision to quit competition skating to focus on his studies. Takahito Mura was awarded his World place.
Tatsuki Machida was born in Kawasaki, Kanagawa, Japan. He studied literature at Kansai University in Osaka. In 2015, he began a Master’s program in sport management at Waseda University’s Graduate School of Sciences.
It has been reported that Machida was the inspiration for the character of Yuri Katsuki in the 2016 figure-skating anime Yuri on Ice, due to the similarities between Machida’s real-life career and Katsuki’s fictional career. The series author, Mitsurō Kubo, is a fan of Tatsuki.
The 2013, Skate America, Machida won his second GP title. He was first in the free and short programs, setting personal records in both, and was able to win 25 points more than second-place finalist, Adam Rippon of the United States. At the 2013 Rostelecom Cup Machida finished second following the short program , which was a little behind Maxim Kovtun of Russia. But he was able to win the free skate by more than 25 points and won the contest – more than 16 points more than Kovtun. He was able to participate in an appearance in the Grand Prix Final in second overall, just behind Patrick Chan of Canada. In the Grand Prix Final he recovered from a weak brief program and skated a solid long program and place 4th. He finished 2nd at the 2013-14 Japan Figure Skating Championships, making it onto the Japanese Olympic and World teams for the first time in his career.
