Marla did not want to go into acting because she was educated in the entertainment field. Marla was interested in fashion merchandising however she was modeling during her time at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa. She was introduced by her father to Norman Brokaw of William Morris Agency to help her to be able to make commercials. She was introduced to one of her acting coaches, Zina Provendie, while at a commercial audition whom she invited Marla to observe her class. She enrolled in the class and was captivated by acting.
