Coetzee played for Western Province at various youth levels, including under-16 Grant Khomo Week in 2008 as well as the Under-18 Academy week in 2009, and the under-18 Craven Week in 2010. He was a member of in the Western Province Rugby Institute in 2011 and was a player with Western Province U19 in the Under-19 Provincial Championship in 2011 as well as for Western Province U21 in the 2012 and 2013 Provincial Championships. He won the championship the following year and scoring two scores in the season.
