Frizell was able to start at three different times in his team All Blacks during the 2018 Rugby Championship, in the absence of injured regular player, Liam Squire. Frizell was among the most impressive players in the opening test against Argentina on September 8 and played the entire 90 minutes at his homeground in Nelson and scoring his first score in the match for The All Blacks as they won 46-24. Frizell however was not able to impress in the two final tests of the competition including the win over 32-30 South Africa, 6 October. In the final test, All Blacks were drawing 6-6 at halftime, but Frizell being substituted at 46 minutes into the game.

On 20 April 2018, Frizell scored three tries against the Blues in a Super Rugby match at Eden Park. His performances for the Highlanders earned him a call-up for New Zealand’s national rugby team, the All Blacks, having been tipped by the media for an unlikely All Black debut.

Luke Jacobson’s concussion problems continued, which ruled him out of the 2019 Rugby World Cup, to Frizell’s benefit. Frizell immediately flew to Japan after Jacobson’s injury, to re-join the 31-man All Blacks squad and has played 1 match off the bench versus South Africa and started against Canada and Namibia scoring in the Canada test

With Vaea Fifita’s recall, Frizell was dropped for the All Blacks’ end-of- season tour for the 2018 season. Newcomers Gareth Evans, Dillon Hunt and Dalton Papalii were also chosen ahead of Frizell.
