He was the nuncio for Zambia as well as Malawi from 2006 to 2011, and as nuncio for the Antilles and a number of different Caribbean nations from 2011 until 2017. He was an archbishop from the year 2006.
On June 16, 2017 Pope Francis named him nuncio to Peru. In May of 2018, he was considered a candidate to be a candidate for the position of Substitute for General Affairs within the Secretariat of State since he was believed to be “very close to Pope Francis and agreeable to Cardinal Pietro Parolin” as secretary of State.
On 29 October 2011 the apostolic delegate was appointed to the Antilles and nuncio of Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Dominica, Jamaica, Grenada, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname and Guyana. On the 21st of December, 2011, he was also appointed the nuncio for Trinidad and Tobago and Barbados.

Born to Ruvo di Puglia, Girasoli was inducted into the priesthood on the 15th of June 1981 in the presence of Pope John Paul II. He received a doctorate degree on canon law. He was appointed to the diplomatic service that is part of the Holy See at the beginning of May 1985. On January 24, the 24th of January, 2006 Pope Benedict XVI appointed the nuncio of Zambia and Malawi and the titular archbishop for Egnazia Appula. His episcopal consecration was celebrated on March 11, 2006, from Cardinal Angelo Sodano, with Archbishop Robert Sarah, and Bishop Luigi Martella as co- consecrators.
