Matt Friction is one of the most popular and richest American musician who was born on February 8, 1981 in Nashville, Tennessee, United States. Friction formed the group Silent Friction with fellow members Nathan Hansen (bass), Kelby Caldwell (guitar) as well as James Nelson (drums) in 1998. They played on a frequent occasion at venues like NXT Generation, Indienet and The Muse in Nashville. The group eventually developed an enduring following after they played in several venues. After 2001, Nelson had to be replaced by Dan Sommers.
The next project was doo-wop/garage band The Dozen Dimes, who started recording in February of 2010. The group debuted the full-length album on their web site thedozendimes.com in the hours of midnight on April 6, 2010 titled Get Real Gone with… the Dozen Dimes. The album’s 11 tracks drew inspirations from a wide range of musical styles, such as doo-wop garage rock, psychedelic rock and soul. A earliest version of The Dozen Dimes’ song “Maybelline” is featured on the Projects’ MySpace page.
In 2009 and with Friction and the Pink Spiders on hiatus, Friction announced that he would be working on two new projects. The other of the groups, Matt Friction & the Cheap Shots, completed an album in the summer of 2009 in Sausalito, California with producer Jerry Harrison. A brand new album titled Matt Friction & the Cheap Shots that contained nine songs was released on February 10, 2010 via the web site, bandcamp. The album featured a guest appearance of Brett Anderson from The Donnas.
