Donald Tardy Biography

Birthday Jan 28
Birth Year 1970

Donald Tardy is one of the most popular and richest American musician who was born on January 28, 1970 in United States. Obituary is one the first bands to emerge from Death Metal as a genre. It was founded as Executioner from Seffner, Florida in 1984 They soon dropped their “E” from their name following the discovery of a band with similar name, and changed their name to Xecutioner. The first lineup comprised consisting of John Tardy (lead vocals), Donald Tardy (drums), Trevor Peres (rhythm guitar), Jerome Grable (bass) and Jerry Tidwell (lead guitar). The group released demos in the years 1985 and 1986 as well as 1987, (the 1985 demo as Executioner as well as the demos from 1986 and 1987 were titled Xecutioner). They released their first vinyl in 1987, with two songs (“Find The Arise” as well as “Like the Dead”) on the Raging Death compilation.

In April of this year, Obituary began work on new material for their ninth studio album Inked in Blood. The album was not released until 2014. The album would be the only Obituary album that was not recorded by bassist Frank Watkins since their 1989 debut album Slowly We Rot. The band reconstructed their studio and began work on their new album. On the 2nd of August 2013 Obituary launched the Kickstarter campaign that had a goal to raise $10,000.00 and the funds collected was pledged to allow Obituary to release and record their ninth album on their own. The goal was accomplished on the 3rd of August. In an interview with the metal website All About The Rock, John Tardy said of the Kickstarter campaign “This campaign has been awesome and just confirms again what we already know and that is that we have the greatest fans in the world. We are using Kickstarter to raise enough money to release an album on our own. This is not a bash against record companies, it is just what we want to do. Years ago this would not even be a thought, but today we feel everything is in place for us, for better or worse, give it a shot.”. While the band managed to raise enough funds to self-release the album, they were associated with Relapse Records and partnered with the label to distribute Inked In Blood, their debut Relapse release.

On August 24, 2016, Obituary streamed a new song called “Loathe”, a B-side to their then-upcoming single “Ten Thousand Ways to Die”, which was released on October 21. The band released their self-titled tenth studio album on March 17, 2017. A month prior to its release, the band released a song called “No”, which appeared on Decibel Magazine’s flexi disc series.

In November and December 2018, Obituary embarked on a European tour as part of Slayer’s farewell tour, also featuring Lamb of God and Anthrax. When asked in a June 2018 interview about the next Obituary album, drummer Donald Tardy said, “We’re always thinking about new songs and writing riffs and this and that. But at this time of our lives and this time of the music industry… This new album has only been out for just over a year now, so we’re in no hurry to try and push another album out of us as quick as we can; there’s no sense.”

Obituary was signed by Candlelight Records for the subsequent three albums: The Xecutioner’s Reappearance (2007), Darkest Day (2009) along with the EP Left to Die (2008). A DVD of the concert was scheduled for January 2010. Since 2012, the band have been highly involved with the promotion of a new social networking site called Unation, as well as Donald Tardy beginning a Cat Sanctuary organization called Metal Meowlisha, an organization practicing “trap-neuter-vaccinate-return”, and caring for 25 cat colonies (200 cats).

Obituary can be described as an American death metal group that was formed at Tampa, Florida, in 1984. Initially , the band was called Executioner The group changed their name back changed to Xecutioner in 1986 in order to be clear of any confusion between it and the popular thrash metal group Executioner from Boston The band then changed its name changing it to Obituary at the end of 1988. The current lineup of the band includes singer John Tardy, drummer Donald Tardy and the rhythm guitarist Trevor Peres, bassist Terry Butler and the lead guitar player Kenny Andrews. Obituary’s lineup has seen various lineup changes in the past, with members like the Tardy brothers as well as Peres being the only remaining members. Obituary was an essential factor in the growth and evolution of the death metal genre and is among the most popular death metal bands ever. Up to date, Obituary has released ten studio albums. And with the only split in 1997 and 2003 the band continues to play live across the globe. Their music revolves on heavily groove-based drumming and riffs, as well as John Tardy’s booming vocals, which form their unique style of death metal.

Following the release of the release of 1997’s Back from the Dead album The band was tired of their touring schedule, which resulted in the band disbanding. In this period, Donald Tardy played in Andrew W.K. the band’s tour (during W.K. his guest appearance in Saturday Night Live Tardy wore an Obituary T-shirt). Allen West focused on his two bands, Lowbrow and Six Feet Under. Trevor Peres formed Catastrophic in 2001. They released their debut albumcalled The Cleansing The Cleansing, the same year. Obituary was reformed in 2003, as well. Catastrophic continued to be a part of the newly formed Obituary. An album of reunions, Frozen in Time, was released in 2005. The first live DVD of the band, Frozen Alive, was released in January 2007.

On October 18, 2015, former and longtime Obituary bassist Frank Watkins died from cancer.
