Dave “The Beast” Spitz (born on February 22, 1958) is an American musician who is best known for playing bass guitar for the heavy-metal group Black Sabbath from 1985 to 1987, and appearing on the album Seventh Star and Seventh Star, as well as being acknowledged for (but not performing in) The Eternal Idol. Dave also played a role in introducing Ray Gillen, the vocalist who joined Black Sabbath mid-tour in 1986 after the abrupt departure from Glenn Hughes.
Alongside being a performer and musician, Spitz has been practicing law for a full time since 1999. He is an civil Trial attorney located in South Florida, and has his own law firm.
In addition, Dave is a second degree black belt (Nidan) in the traditional Okinawan Goju-ryu Karate-do. In his first karate class around the age 14 New York, Dave initially trained under U.S.A. Kata champion sensei Chuck Merriman, and fought in numerous karate events. After an era of Black Sabbath years, he continued his martial arts studies in California and was able to train with the top-ranked Goju-ryu practitioner worldwide sensei Morio Higaonna, president of the International Okinawan Goju-ryu Karate Do Federation. Spitz also trained and studied under the sensei Mel Pralgo, sensei Rodney Hu and the sensei Stan O’Hara, and sensei Miko Peled and was also given the distinction of being a Dai Senpai (highest class student in addition to an assistant instructor) for a number of years at the dojo of sensei Pralgo located in Thousand Oaks, California, before making the move into Florida in 1996 for law school.
