He resigned from the Samoa Squad shortly afterward and was appointed coach of the Pacific Islanders coach for 2004.
As a member of the NZRFU’s staff, he got transferred for a season to Manu Samoa, in 2000 and then won his first Pacific Rim Tournament. He also earned the qualification for 2004 Rugby World Cup finals, which his team won two matches alongside Uruguay and Georgia as well as two losses that were honorable in the finals to England in addition to South Africa, finishing in third place in his group.
