Christopher Haden-Guest (5th Baron Haden–Guest), was born February 5, 1948, is an English- American screenwriter and composer, musician, director. He also acts as a comedian. Guest is best known for his comedy films, which were shot in mockumentary (mockumentary). Guest was also the director and star of many of them. Guest’s films feature many scenes and characters that are written and directed by Guest. However, actors don’t have to prepare and the cast improvise scenes as they film. This Is Spinal Tap, which Guest did not direct, was the first of the series. The films continued with Waiting for Guffman and Best In Show, A Mighty Wind and For Your Consideration.

Guest married Jamie Lee Curtis, actress, in 1984 at the home Rob Reiner, a mutual friend. Two adopted children were born to them: Anne (born in 1986) and Thomas (1996). Guest’s adopted children cannot inherit the family barony according to the terms of the patent letters that created it. However, a 2004 Royal Warrant addressed the style of peer’s adopted children stated that they could use courtesy titles. Guest’s younger brother Nicholas Guest is the presumptive heir to the barony.

Guest started his theatre career in the 1970s. One of his first professional performances was the part of Norman in Michael Weller’s Moonchildren. This play premiered in America at the Arena Stage in Washington D.C., November 1971. Guest continued the production after it was moved to Broadway in 2002. He began contributing to The National Lampoon Radio Hour in 1972, where he recorded a variety National Lampoon audio recordings. He performed a variety of comic characters, including Flash Bazbo, Space Explorer, Mr. Rogers and Roger de Swans. He also wrote, arranged, and performed many musical parodies (including those by James Taylor, Bob Dylan, and James Taylor). He was featured in National Lampoon’s Lemmings Off-Broadway revue alongside Chevy Chase and John Belushi. His first roles in film were two small roles as uniformed officers in The Hot Rock, 1972, and Death Wish, 1974.

Recurring characters on SNL played by Guest include Frankie, of Willie and Frankie (coworkers who recount in detail physically painful situations in which they have found themselves, remarking laconically “I hate when that happens”); Herb Minkman, a shady novelty toymaker with a brother named Al (played by Crystal); Rajeev Vindaloo, an eccentric foreign man in the same vein as Andy Kaufman’s Latka character from Taxi; and Señor Cosa, a Spanish ventriloquist often seen on the recurring spoof of The Joe Franklin Show. He also experimented behind the camera with pre-filmed sketches, notably directing a documentary-style short starring Shearer and Short as synchronized swimmers. In another short film from SNL, Guest and Crystal appear as retired Negro league baseball players, “The Rooster and the King”.
