The native of Australia but brought up within New Zealand, Taylor represented New Zealand at U-19 and schoolboy levels. He made his debut with Otago during Otago’s 2006 Air New Zealand Cup and signed a contract with the Highlanders for the 2007 Super 14 season. Taylor made five starts in 2007 and seemed to be a promising future for the franchise , but an injury to his knee severely slowed the career of Taylor and caused him be out for the entire year of the season in 2008.
After a long injury break, Taylor signed with the Queensland Reds for the 2009 Super 14 season He appeared in 14 games over two seasons with the Reds and scored his first Super Rugby try.
Taylor returned to New Zealand and signed with the Otago Rugby Football Union for the 2013 ITM Cup season.
