David Christopher Padgett (born February 13th in 1985) is a American basketball trainer who worked as an interim head coach of the Louisville Cardinals for the 2017-18 season. As a player in the NCAA basketball tournament He participated in the Kansas Jayhawks before transferring and concluding his playing career at Louisville. After Padgett’s departure from Louisville and now coaching for North Oldham Middle School in Goshen, Kentucky

The family was born in Reno, Nevada, Padgett was a student at Reno High School, where he averaged 27 points as well as 14 rebounds per game during his senior year. He was a student at McDonald’s High School and a first-team Parade All-American. He was also a member of the 2004 USA Basketball Junior World Championship Qualifying Team and won the gold medal during the tournament.

After spending the 2008-09 season in Spain, Padgett was named to the Portland Trail Blazers 2009 summer league team. However, Padgett was not invited to training camp, and proceeded to play the next year in Spain with U.B. La Palma.

Though undrafted by an NBA team, Padgett was signed on July 2, 2008 by the Miami Heat, and added to its summer league team. However, Padgett was waived by the Heat on October 26, 2008.

Following his first season, Padgett decided to transfer to the University of Louisville. NCAA regulations required that he redshirt and not play for the 2004-2005 seasons, in which the Cardinals reached the Final Four.
