Daymond Randolph Langkow (born on 27th September 1976) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. He was the 5th overall pick from the Tampa Bay Lightning at the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. He played junior hockey for Tri-City Americans. Tri-City Americans in the Western Hockey League (WHL) and holds the franchise record for career goals with 159. He was awarded the Bob Clarke Trophy in 1995 as the WHL scoring leader, with 140 points. He also competed alongside his Canadian junior team in the 1996 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships in which he was awarded the gold medal.
Langkow returned to the Lightning during 1997-96 NHL season, scoring 14 goals and 28 points during his debut season. Langkow had his very first NHL goal on the 19th of November in 1996, in a game against The Los Angeles Kings, and was named NHL’s player of the month in February. He sank to 22 points in 1997-98 . He finished the season in a row with the Lightning in which he resisted an offer to be deported from an organization called the Adirondack Red Wings of the American Hockey League. In the end, the Lightning suspended him for a period of time, but they informed the media that they would not be interested in trading the player. He was suspended for seven games and paid his salary of $63,000 prior to the Lightning changed their minds and allowed him to be recalled to end their season Tampa. Langkow joined the Cleveland Lumberjacks of the International Hockey League to start the 1998-99 season amid speculation about trades, but was released after just four games. He was traded to Philadelphia Flyers along with Mikael Renberg on the 12th of December 1998, in exchange to Chris Gratton and Mike Sillinger.
The acquisition of Jeremy Roenick and Jiri Dopita by the Flyers in the summer of 2001 left Langkow, a restricted free agent, as the odd man out in Philadelphia. He was dealt to the Phoenix Coyotes in exchange for a second round draft pick in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft (Dan Sprang) and a first round pick in 2003 (Jeff Carter). Unable to agree on a contract, Langkow and the Coyotes went to arbitration where he was awarded a two-year contract worth $4.2 million. He made an immediate impact with Phoenix, scoring his first career hat trick in a 5–2 victory over the Washington Capitals in the Coyotes’ home opener. He finished the 2001–02 season as the team leader with 62 points. He fell back to 52 points in 2002–03, but scored his 100th career goal in his 500th career game on December 30, 2002, a 4–3 overtime victory against the Edmonton Oilers. He finished second in team scoring with 52 points, and served as an alternate captain for the Coyotes during the 2003–04 season.
The Coyotes signed Langkow to a one-year, $2.95 million contract in August 2004, but dealt him to the Calgary Flames less than two weeks later for Oleg Saprykin and Denis Gauthier. The season, and the contract, were wiped out by the 2004–05 NHL lockout; Langkow did not play anywhere during the lost season. The Flames signed Langkow to a new contract prior to the 2005–06 season amidst high expectations as he was placed on the top line with Jarome Iginla. He finished the season second on the Flames in both goals (25) and points (59) and recorded his sixth consecutive season with 50+ points.
Langkow began the NHL debut with the Lightning He also played in his former team the Philadelphia Flyers, Phoenix Coyotes and Calgary Flames. Langkow recorded 30 goals two times during his career as a player with the Flames and has recorded more than 50 goals in eight straight seasons between 1999 and 2008. He was a finalist to win the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy in 1997. He has played more than 1,000 games for the NHL. His brother, Scott was also an NHL player.

Langkow was chosen from the Tri-City Americans at the end of round two of 1991’s Western Hockey League (WHL) Bantam Draft. He played the 1991-92 season playing for the Edmonton Pats of the Alberta Midget Hockey League and scored an average of 81 points over 35 games and playing one game for the Americans as a teenager. Langkow was a part of Tri-City fully in the 1992-1993 season with 22 goals and scoring 64 points in 64 games . He progressed by scoring 40 goals with 83 points during 1993-94. Langkow scored nearly two points per game during 1994-95 with 140 points over 72 games. He was awarded the winner of the Bob Clarke Trophy as the highest scoring player in the WHL and was selected on the WHL West and Canadian Hockey League First All-Star Teams. He was third- placed player behind Marty Murray for the Four Broncos Memorial Trophy as the WHL’s top player.
The Tampa Bay Lightning selected Langkow fifth overall in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. As the final days approached for the 1995-96 season the Lightning signed Langkow to a 3-year, $2.4 million agreement. The player began the National Hockey League (NHL) debut on the 7th of October 1995, against The Calgary Flames. Langkow played in four games for the Lightning before being transferred to Tri-City. He scored 91 points over 48 games played with The Americans and was selected for the league’s West Second All-Star Team. In 2012, he is the Americans franchise record holder for the most career goals, with 159. Langkow was a representative of Canada during his participation in the 1996 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships in which he was awarded the gold medal.
While he was considered a throw-in for the Flyers who made the trade to re- acquire Renberg, Langkow flourished in Philadelphia. He finished the season with 14 goals combined between Tampa and Philadelphia, and his development as a playmaking centre earned him the Pelle Lindbergh Memorial from his teammates as the Flyers’ most improved player. They re-signed Langkow to a two-year contract extension following the season. He set new personal highs in goals and assists in 1999–2000, finishing with 50 points and helping the Flyers reach the Eastern Conference Final in the 2000 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Despite missing 11-games with two broken feet, Langkow improved to 54 points in the 2000–01 season.
