Mike Pressler is one of the most popular and richest American coach who was born on February 27, 1960 in Wilton, Connecticut, United States. Mike Pressler, born February 27, 1960, is an American lacrosse coach. Since 2007, he has been the Bryant Bulldogs’ head coach. Since 2007, he has been the Bryant Bulldogs’ head coach. He was the Duke Blue Devils’ head coach for 16 seasons before he was forced out by the Duke lacrosse scandal in 2006. In 2005, he was awarded the F. Morris Touchstone Award as the men’s college basketball coach of the year. He coached the United States men’s national lacrosse team towards a gold medal in 2010.
In October 2007, Pressler sued Duke alleging that the university had violated the terms of the confidential settlement. Pressler claimed that Duke violated the terms of the settlement after he was made to feel disparaging remarks by John Burness, the senior vice president at Duke. Burness said the difference between Pressler’s and current lacrosse coach was “night-and-day.” The suit sought to invalidate the settlement and seek damages by trial, rather than arbitration, as stated in his contract.
After West Point, Pressler was the head coach at Ohio Wesleyan University (OWU). In October 2007, he was inducted into the Ohio Wesleyan University Hall of Fame. During his 5-year tenure at OWU from 1986 through 1990, Pressler amassed a 69-16 record, four NCAC championships, five visits to the NCAA Division III semi-finals, three NCAA Division III Championship game appearances, 29 All-American selections, and five NCAA Division III players of the year. His contributions to the OWU lacrosse program made him the winningest coach (.812) in OWU’s over 50-year lacrosse history.
The trial judge ruled for Pressler’s claims, and was upheld by the Court of Appeals on September 1, 2009. Pressler’s obligation to submit his claims to arbitration was voided by the June settlement. Pressler was free to proceed with his suit, including discovery. On March 31, 2010, the final day before discovery would start, Duke settled with Pressler. Although terms of the settlement were not disclosed, Duke issued an apology.
In 2006, he was fired after rape allegations against three of his athletes were proven to be unfounded. Duke publicly described Pressler’s resignation as a resignation. This led to the suggestion that the coach had resigned because of the presumed guilt of the students. Pressler believed that the players were innocent. He had also argued that the lacrosse season shouldn’t be cancelled until DNA tests results are returned. Pressler, along with Don Yaeger, has written a book that reflects his views on the incident: It’s not About the Truth.
