The Hartford Whalers drafted him in the fourth round of the 1994 NHL Entry Draft, 83rd overall. Between 1996 and 2003, he played 267 National Hockey League games (NHL) for the Whalers and Calgary Flames and Atlanta Thrashers, respectively. He then moved to Switzerland, where he played the rest of his career in National League A. He was a member of the Swiss team at the 2010 Winter Olympics.
He has represented Team Canada at several Spengler Cups. Domenichelli is now married to a Swiss woman with two children. In 2009 Domenichelli obtained his Swiss passport, which allowed him to play for Switzerland at the 2010 Winter Olympics.
Domenichelli played in 96 games in four seasons with Flames, before being traded to Atlanta Thrashers in 1999-2000 in exchange for Darryl Shannon and Jason Botterill. The Thrashers’ 2000-01 season was his best-scoring season in NHL history, with 15 goals. The Thrashers traded Domenichelli for Andy Sutton during the 2001-02 season. After the 2002-03 season, he moved to Switzerland with the Wild.

Domenichelli was selected by the Hartford Whalers in the fourth round of the 1994 NHL Entry Draft, 83rd overall. In 1996-97, Domenichelli made his professional debut for the Whalers’ AHL affiliate, the Springfield Falcons. Before being traded to Calgary Flames, he also played in 13 games for the Whalers.
Domenichelli was born in Edmonton, Alberta. He had a stellar junior career with the Kamloops Blazers (WHL). He was a WHL West Second Team All-Star 1995 and 1996. In 1996, he was also a First Team All-Star. He was the WHL’s sportsman of the season and the Brad Hornung Trophy winner. He was the WHL champion with the Blazers in 1995, and the Memorial Cup as the national Major- Junior Champion in 1995 and 1996.
