McMenamin was suggested for Shrewsbury Town manager Gary Peters by his assistant Mick Wadsworth. McMenamin signed a free transfer in August of 2005. McMenamin was a first-choice player for his Shropshire club, scoring a goal per game for four games. With 14 goals across 43 games, he was the top scorer of the club in the 2005-06 League Two season.
He joined Gretna in August 2006 on a free transfer, making his debut as a substitute for James Grady in the 6–0 win at home to Hamilton on 5 August
- He scored his first goals for Gretna in his second game for the club, scoring two goals in the 2–1 victory away to Clyde on 13 August 2006. He re- joined Livingston on loan in November 2007.

He was back in Scotland via an unpaid move into Livingston the end of August. In his three seasons at the SPL club, McMenamin recorded 10 goals over his 50 games in the league. McMenamin was also loaned to Falkirk for a period of half a year (August 2003 to the end of December, 2003) during that time; the striker scored four goals in just 16 games in the division One club. McMenamin was the cup-holder for Livingston’s win at the 2004 Scottish League Cup Final having played in the tournament previously while on loan at Falkirk.

Colin McMenamin (born 12 February 1981) is a Scottish professional footballer who is currently with Hurlford United.
His senior career started in 1999 with Dumfries and Galloway club Annan Athletic which was then part of the East of Scotland Football League He was later accepted to English Premier League club Newcastle United after one season. The club was home for two years, but did not make an official senior appearance.
He scored 23 goals in 38 games as Gretna won the First Division title in 2006–07, and won the Gretna Player of the Year.

McMenamin’s first goal for his new club came in his second game, a 2–1 League Cup win against Queens Park. His first league goal was on 15 October 2011 in the 2–1 win at Dundee.
