Christopher David Steele (born 24 June 1964) is a British former intelligence officer who worked for MI6. He was a member of the Secret Intelligence Service MI6 from 1987 until his retirement 2009. He was the head of MI6’s Russia desk in the MI6 Headquarters in London between 2006 and 2009. Then, in 2009, he founded Orbis Business Intelligence, a London-based private intelligence company.

Steele graduated from Girton College, Cambridge in 1982. At his school, the University of Cambridge, he wrote for the student newspaper Varsity. In the Easter period in 1986 Steele became the President of Cambridge Union debating society. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Political and Political Sciences in 1986.
