In the year 2010, Dry joined the South African Sevens team in 2010. Dry made his debut in the Adelaide Sevens tournament and participated in four tournaments during the 2010-2011 IRB Sevens World Series and quickly became a regular player in the side.
He once again played in all nine events of the 2013–14 IRB Sevens World Series before participating at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, helping his side all the way to the final, where they got a 17–12 victory over a New Zealand that won the previous four tournaments.
He played in six tournaments during the 10-11 IRB Sevens World Series and participated in every event in 2011-2012 IRB Sevens World Series. He was a part of the initial eight tournaments of the 2012-13 IRB Sevens World Series, however, he was not able to participate in his chance to play in the 2013 London Sevens. He was also a part of the Blitzbokke who played in the 2013 Rugby World Cup Sevens, however, he was knocked out in the quarter-finals stage by Fiji.

Dry played at the rugby field at the school he attended, Grey College in Bloemfontein and was selected for the Free State’s Under-18 team that participated in the Academy Week tournament in 2006. In the subsequent year, he got part of the young teams of the Free State Cheetahs; he was a part of Free State’s Free State U19 side in the 2007 Provincial Under-19 Championship and also for the Free State U21 side in the Provincial Championships for Under-21 in 2008 and 2009.
He made his class debut with the Free State Cheetahs during the 2009 Currie Cup Premier Division, making an appearance as a substitute in their 59-8 win in the match against Boland Cavaliers in Bloemfontein. This was his sole appearance at the Currie Cup, despite being listed as a bench player for their games against Golden Lions and Western Province.
He made a single appearance for university side UFS Shimlas during the 2010 Varsity Cup competition, a 37–31 win over TUT Vikings before joining the Free State Cheetahs’ squad for the 2010 Vodacom Cup. After an appearance off the bench in their match against Argentine invitational side Pampas XV, he started his first ever first class match against Western Province the following week and also started their next two matches against the Golden Lions and Boland Cavaliers.
