In May of 1996 The University of Delaware hired Martin as its head coach for the Delaware Fightin Blue Hens’ female basketball. Martin had a record of 408-238 during her 21 seasons as the head coach, including 4 NCAA Tournament appearances (2001, 2007 and 2012 as well as 2013,) and seven women’s National Invitation Tournament appearances (2002 2003, 2005 2006 2011, 2013 and 2014.). In 2012-13, the Delaware team was among the most successful of her time when the team was 32-4, winning both CAA regular season and tournament championships and Delaware’s first appearance at tournament play in the NCAA Sweet 16. Elena Delle Donne, leading scoring player on the team was the second pick overall during the draft in 2013. Martin was born at Williamsport, Pennsylvania, Martin played basketball in the NCAA Division II in the NCAA Division II basketball tournament at Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania from 1982 until 1986.
