Christopher John Anstey (born 1 January 1975) is an Australian professional basketball player who played for the past few years. at 7’1″ (215 cm) his professional career comprised stints with the National Basketball Association (NBA), Russia and Spain. Anstey was picked for the Portland Trail Blazers in the first round (18th selection in the overall draft) from the 1997 NBA draft. He was also a player with The Melbourne Tigers, South East Melbourne Magic and the Victoria Titans in the NBL. He was released at the end of 2009-2010 season playing with the Tigers and was later appointed the head coach of the team in 2012.
On September 13, in 2000 Anstey received an Australian Sports Medal.
Anstey returned to the NBL with the Victoria Titans in 2000–01, winning Best Sixth Man. In 2003, Anstey led Russian club Ural Great Perm to runners up in the Russian Championship, and was named ULEB Cup MVP. In 2004, Anstey signed with UNICS Kazan, and had an All-Star season, leading the team to a EuroChallenge Championship, the first in Russian history. Anstey was a Euroleague All-Star again in 2005. Anstey returned to his native Australia with his original team, the Melbourne Tigers, in 2006. After returning, Anstey enjoyed plenty of success, leading the NBL in blocks in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009; and in rebounding in 2008 and 2009; earning the MVP in 2006 and 2008; Grand Finals MVP in 2006 and Best Defensive Player in 2008.
Chris Anstey retired from playing at the conclusion of the 2009–10 NBL season. In his final NBL game against the Gold Coast Blaze at the State Netball and Hockey Centre in Melbourne, Anstey scored 13 points, had 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 block though the Blaze defeated the Tigers 91–73.
Anstey is the 18th overall pick of the 1997 NBA Draft by the Portland Trail Blazers. The rights to his draft were traded by the Blazers with cash to Dallas Mavericks for the draft rights to Kelvin Cato in June 1997. In his rookie year of 1997-98, he averaging 5.9 PPG as well as 3.8 RPG over 16.6 MPG. He scored a career-high 26 points in a game against Boston Celtics Boston Celtics on 17 March. The following year, his stats decreased down to 3.3 PPG and 2.4 RPG. The Mavericks traded him to the Mavericks to the Chicago Bulls for a second round draft pick in the year 2000 during September of 1999. Anstey averaged 6.0 PPG as well as 3.8 RPG with 44.2 FG% during his final NBA campaign as a member of the Bulls. Anstey has a career NBA standard that include 5.2 PPG. Anstey began playing basketball around the age of 17 years old. He was already an accomplished tennis player who was ranked as the 2nd best among Australia’s young players, and was regularly playing the doubles game with Mark Philippoussis. He was signed in 1994 by the was a member of Melbourne Tigers. Melbourne Tigers and was teammates with the most famous players of Australian basketball, like Andrew Gaze, Mark Bradtke and Lanard Copeland. He also served as the head coach Lindsay Gaze. After a single season playing for the Tigers Anstey was then signed to the team by South East Melbourne Magic coach Brian Goorjian. He was a player for the Magic between 1995 and 1997, winning the NBL’s Most Improved player award in 1996, as well as an award in 1996 for the NBL Championship, before going to the NBA.

Anstey was appointed head coach of the Melbourne Tigers for the 2012–13 NBL season. He was subsequently re-signed as the head coach for 2013–14 for his efforts during 2012–13. On 13 October 2014, he stepped down as head of Melbourne following United’s 2014–15 season opening loss to Cairns.
