Ben Purser is one of the most popular and richest Australian basketball player who was born on February 24, 1990 in Perth, Australia. The father of Purser’s, Andrew, is a former Australian rules footballer who played in the Victorian Football League (VFL) for the Footscray Football Club from 1983 to 1987.
Purser began his career with his team, the Perry Lakes Hawks in the State Basketball League (SBL) during the 2008 season. The Hawks were named minor premiers in 2008, with the first place finish and 21-5 record. They were up against an eighth seeded Willetton Tigers in the quarter-finals however, without the first (Tom Garlepp) and third (Peter Crawford) top scorers in the game, the Hawks lost by a score of 2-1. After scoring 7.3 score per game in their regular campaign, Purser was required to play more in the quarter-finals in which he scored 43 points in three games, which included an impressive 21 points in a series-levelling victory of 94-89 at the end of game. Purser played at 28 times in the Hawks 29 games played in 2008, scoring 8.0 pointsand 4.8 2 rebounds, and 1.3 assists over 20 minutes of game. Purser also was a part of WABL in his 2008 campaign, earning the Men’s Division 1 All Star honours and taking in leading the Hawks into victory over the division 1 Grand Final.
In June 2009, Purser travelled with an Australian Under 20 national side to Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands, to compete in the FIBA Oceania Basketball Tournament. In the squad was future NBA player Cameron Bairstow. They played against national men’s teams from the host nation, New Caledonia, New Zealand and Guam, going undefeated in the tournament to win the gold medal. A highlight for Purser was scoring 13 points in a 107–41 win over Northern Mariana Islands.
In the SBL, Purser has helped the Hawks reach three grand finals while winning one championship. After runner-up finishes in 2009 and 2011, Purser led the Hawks to victory in 2018 behind a grand final MVP performance. He is also a four-time SBL All-Defensive Five honouree, a one-time All-Star Five recipient, and in 2009 he won the Most Improved Player award.
Purser has attended Christ Church Grammar School in Perth, Western Australia, where he played basketball as well as football. He was also the school’s Captain. The school graduated him in 2007, and is currently part of the Old Boys Association.

Ben Purser (born 24 February 1990) is an Australian basketball player with the Perry Lakes Hawks of the State Basketball League (SBL). An ex- Perth Wildcats development player, Purser was the first player to debut with the Hawks in the SBL in 2008, and also played in a college basketball season at the United States for Augusta State University in the 2010/11 season. Purser was a part of in the Wildcats as a player in development in 2011, when he played in 24 NBL games in two seasons for the team.
As an undergrad, Purser played for Subiaco Basketball Club and also played for his team the Perry Lakes Hawks in the Western Australian Basketball League (WABL). He also played for Western Australia at three Australian Junior Championships with Silver at 2007’s Under 18 National Championships in Launceston and bronze at the 2008 Under 20 National Championships in Albury. In 2009, the Under 20 National Championships in Townsville, WA finished fourth. In six games during the 2009 championship, Purser averaged 13.5 points per game.
Purser improved in 2009, recording his first career triple-double with 17 points, 11 rebounds and 12 assists against the Perth Redbacks on 4 April, and scoring a season-high 28 points against the Mandurah Magic on 16 May. The Hawks finished the regular season in sixth place with a 17–9 record and advanced through the first two rounds of the finals undefeated to reach the SBL Grand Final. In the championship decider on 22 August, the Hawks were defeated 85–77 by the Lakeside Lightning. Purser averaged 19.8 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.0 assists over the first two rounds of the finals, but recorded just eight points, two assists, one rebound and one steal in the grand final, while fouling out late in the match with his sixth personal foul. At Basketball WA’s end-of-season awards night, Purser was named the SBL’s Most Improved Player. He appeared in 28 of the team’s 31 games in 2009, averaging 13.4 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.

Due to his college stint in the United States, Purser did not re-join the Hawks until May 2011, as he subsequently missed the first nine games of the 2011 season. He scored in double figures in all but one game for the second straight year and recorded five double-doubles. On 6 June, he had a season- best game with 16 points, a career-high 21 rebounds, and seven assists in a 94–85 win over the Goldfields Giants. He was subsequently named Player of the Week for Round 12. He later had back-to-back games with 28 points on 10 July and 16 July. The Hawks finished the regular season in fourth place with a 17–9 record, going on to beat the Stirling Senators 2–0 in the quarter-finals before defeating the first-seeded Lakeside Lightning 2–1 in the semi-finals. They subsequently reached SBL Grand Final for the second time in three years. In the championship decider on 27 August, the Hawks were defeated 88–83 by the Wanneroo Wolves despite 18 points from Purser. In 22 games, he averaged 18.2 points, 7.4 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.0 steals per game.
