Chadwick Stokes Urmston is one of the most popular and richest American musician who was born on February 26, 1976 in Boston, Massachusetts, United States. Chadwick Stokes Urmston was born on February 26 1976, in Boston, Massachusetts, into an extended family. Urmston was a graduate of Dover-Sherborn High School in 1994 and was able to attend both Middlebury College and NYU. In the course of his studies, Urmston briefly lived in Zimbabwe and made friends with an employee from the local field known as Elias. Then, Urmston wrote a song called “Elias” for Dispatch’s 1996 album “Silent Steeples”, which was one of their best recognized songs. A lot of his songs refer to the place he grew up traveling in the summer months, West Chop, Massachusetts.
Flag of the Shiners reformed in 2004 as State Radio in 2004 and began to tour in a series of shows over the following decade, with various group lineups. Their second album “Simmer Kane” was released in March 2004. It was a significant change from their live performance and their debut album, featuring acoustic guitar instead of the heavy electric guitar, a more tranquil and folk-inspired songwriting, and Urmston was joined on vocals and acoustic guitar by Erin Lashnits Coughlin aka “Ras LC”. It was a close resemblance to Urmston’s later solo projects more than any other work released on State Radio or Dispatch at the time. It was reissued under the moniker of “Ras LC” at the end of August in 2012. In the latter half of 2004, the group reformed to a trio, with the addition of drummer Brian Sayers. After the release in December 2005 of the group’s first fully-length record “Us Against the Crown,” drummer Michael Najarian replaced Brian Sayers.
The story behind the song “Elias” written by Urmston about his experience living and teaching in Zimbabwe inspired the nonprofit organization the Elias Fund to form in 2005. The Elias Fund looks to provide hope and opportunity to Zimbabwean youth through community development and education while empowering the American youth culture to embrace their global role and make it an active one.
In 2006, Urmston collaborated with Boston local punk band Plan b to record the track “Bandwagon” from their sophomore release Welcome! Generations.
When he created State Radio, Urmston focused only on vocals and guitar instead of switching instruments like his previous work with Dispatch. The lyrics of State Radio songs are heavily inspired by political and social issues, in contrast to Dispatch songs. State Radio originally, under their first name, Flag of the Shiners, comprised of guitarist Pete Halby, bassist Chuck Fay as well as drummer Mike Greenfield. Following their self-titled debut album “Flag of the Shiners” was released by Fenway Recordings in late 2002 The band took for a brief hiatus through 2003 in the course of Urmston recuperated following a surgery to repair his throat.
