Carl Joseph Hayman, a former New Zealand rugby union footballer, was born 14 November 1979. He played tighthead prop. Hayman played previously for the Highlanders in Super Rugby and Otago in NPC. He also played for Newcastle Falcons in English Premiership. Hayman also made 45 international appearances for New Zealand. Hayman, 35 years old, announced his retirement from rugby professional in January 2015.

Hayman joined French club Toulon on 22 March 2010. Hayman joins a group of well-known players who signed for Toulon along with Jonny Wilkinson and Juan Martin Fernandez Lobbe. Because of the New Zealand Rugby Union policy that only selects players who have previously played in New Zealand’s domestic competition, he decided to stay in Europe and was therefore ineligible to play in the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

A club source said of the signing “every top club in Europe has been chasing him, but he’s chosen to come to Newcastle and we’re delighted he has made that decision”. Hayman is strong enough to box squat 250 kg (550 lb).

He was selected for the Barbarians squad that played Tonga 26 November 2010. He was 16-15 behind Clermont Auvergne when he won the 2013 Heineken Cup Final.
