Wright represented KwaZulu-Natal under-16s when he was selected for their squad to the Grant Khomo Week in Upington, 2010. He represented the Under-18 team at the 2012 Under-18 Craven Week tournament two years later.
Later that year, he was part of the Sharks Under-19 Provincial Championship team, where he started seven matches. He played twelve matches for the Sharks Under-19 Provincial Championship team and was promoted to the Sharks Under-21 side in 2014.
In 2014, he also played in the Varsity Shield competition for university side UKZN Impi. He started all eight regular season matches for the side as they finished in second place. He also played in the final against CUT Ixias, but could not prevent them slipping to a 35–26 defeat. He also played in the side’s promotion play-off as they attempted to secure a spot in the 2015 Varsity Cup, but failing to do so as they suffered a 42–8 defeat to UJ.
