Bobby Broom is one of the most popular and richest American jazz guitarist who was born on January 18, 1961 in New York, United States. Broom was born in Harlem (1961) and was raised on the city’s Upper West Side (1970s). Broom began his guitar studies at the age of 12, learning first with folk music. In the year following the guitarist began his studies at the jazz guitar of Jimmy Carter in Harlem, where he attended daily lessons over the following two years. He was a student at his school, the High School of Music and Art (Laguardia High School of Performing Arts) in which he performed in the jazz group and was awarded an award for outstanding jazz improvisation in the final year of his high school. Broom started his career while in high school, performing in New York clubs with Charlie Parker pianists, Al Haig, and Walter Bishop, Jr.. In 1977, he appeared in Carnegie Hall in a concert along with Sonny Rollins and Donald Byrd.
In 2009, he released Bobby Broom Plays for Monk and its cover image featuring the wagon red Monk used to record his album Monk’s Music.
In his capacity as an instructor, Broom began his work in 1982 with Jackie McLean, Director of African American Music at Studies for the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford. In the past, Broom was also an instructor for The American Conservatory of Music (1986-1990), Chicago Musical College -the college that was Roosevelt University (1990-1994), The Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz (1987), DePaul University (2002-2008) and North Park University. He also teaches Chicago teenagers in high schools in the Ravinia Music Festival Organization’s community activities Jazz Scholar Program. In 2005, he attended Northwestern University for his master’s degree in jazz teaching.

Robert Broom Jr. (born on the 18th of January 1961) is a American jazz musician as well as composer and educator. He was was raised in New York City, then relocated to Chicago where he has made Chicago his home since 1984. He is a member of The Bobby Broom Trio and his organ ensemble, The Bobby Broom Organi-Sation. While he is proficient in the traditional jazz (bebop and post- bop) terms, Broom draws from a diverse range of American musical styles like soul, funk, R&B and blues.
He attended at the Berklee School of Music from 1978-1979. He later relocating back to New York to pursue his profession while attending Long Island University. He started working with the musicians in New York as guitarist for Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers, Dave Grusin, Hugh Masekela, and Tom Browne and then signed an agreement with GRP. In the early 1980s after which he relocated to Chicago. He founded The Bobby Broom Trio in 1990, then the Deep Blue Organ Trio with Chris Foreman and Greg Rockingham in 1999 and The Bobby Broom Organi-Sation in 2014.
Broom’s first release of exclusively original compositions was Upper West Side Story (2012). The album reached No. 1. on the College Music Journal jazz chart and was in the Jazz Week and Down Beat Top Albums of 2012.
