He graduated from Taras Shevchenko State University of Kiev in 1983, where he studied physics and was a member of the department of astronomy. He worked at the Main Astronomical Observatory of Ukraine from 1983 to 1992, and was awarded the degree of Candidate of Physico–mathematical Sciences. After the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1992, he was promoted to an automotive dealer firm in Kiev.
In June 2014, because of the crisis in the automotive industry in Ukraine, he left the dealer center and once again became a research scientist at the Main Observatory of Ukraine’s Academy of Sciences. Meanwhile, he continues supervising of the Andrushivka Observatory.
