Maspero retired and took up a coaching position at Eccellenza Amateurs Ciliverghe Mazzano. He led them to a historic promotion to Serie D. He was then contacted by Lega Pro professionals Pavia who hired him as their new head coach for 2014-15.
On 25 February 2019, he signed with Giana Erminio.
Maspero’s career was revived by the Granata and he played a key role in the team’s return from Serie A. He was a hero among club fans when he scored a late equalizer in a 3-3 draw against cross-town rivals and eventual Serie A champions Juventus in Derby della mole. Torino had been trailing 3-0 at the start of the 2001-02 Serie A campaign. He helped Torino win a UEFA Intertoto Cup place that season. He was relegated to Serie B by Torino in 2003 and moved to Fiorentina to continue his playing career.

Maspero’s professional career was dominated by his time at Cremonese in Serie A. He also played in two spells in the Italian top flight for one year. He was a star during the 1992-93 promotion season and was a great player in Serie A’s 10th-placed side coached by Luigi Simoni during 1993-94. He was a skilled playmaker who earned a good reputation.
After a 1997 move to Lecce, his career was ruined. The club were relegated from Serie B at season’s end. He was then loaned to Vicenza, Perugia and played limited first-team football for the following three seasons before joining Torino in 2000-01 Serie B.
On 13 November 2018, he was hired by Pro Piacenza as head coach. As Pro Piacenza experienced financial difficulties, he left the club in early 2019.
