The Oilers selected him for the Oilers in the fourth round and placed 91st overall, during the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

On May 8th the year 2017 the announcement was made by the Oilers that Lagesson was set to play in the 2017-18 season in Sweden. He then returned in Sweden on loan to Djurgardens IF of the SHL. In his 49 appearances the player scored one assist and 1 goal to earn 13 points during the season’s regular campaign. He continued to be a consistent player during the post-season and recorded one assist over 11 matches.

Lagesson was a player in his youth in his home nation of Sweden in his home country’s Frolunda HC organization. After his second year in J20 SuperElit, J20 SuperElit, Lagesson was chosen in his debut calendar year as a player by the Edmonton Oilers in the fourth-round 91st overall selection from the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. In a decision to pursue his development with the NHL in North America, Lagesson was picked 11th overall during 2014’s USHL Entry Draft by the Dubuque Fighting Saints.
Returning to the Oilers over the summer, and after participating in the NHL training camp, Lagesson was assigned to begin the 2018–19 season with AHL affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors, on September 20, 2018.
