From April 16 to 22 June 2012 she was the judge in the trials of Anders Behring Breivik following the 2011 Norway attacks with the assistance of the district magistrate Arne Lyng, and three lay judges.
At the start of the trial in 2012 against Anders Behring Breivik, Breivik claimed that Judge Arntzen was a close acquaintance of Hanne Harlem, who was the sister of the former prime minister Gro Harlem Brundtland and who Breivik on the fourth day of the trial admitted to having been a primary target for the execution of his gunman on Utoya island. Breivik also testified that he intended to kill in video, al Qaeda style. But to the question of Arntzen whether this was an official declaration of conflict of interests Breivik’s principal defence lawyer Geir Lippestad, following a brief conversing with Breivik on day four of the trial, said it wasn’t.
