Paul deLay is one of the most popular and richest American vocalist who was born on January 31, 1952 in Portland, Oregon, United States. Paul Joseph deLay (January 31 1952 – 7 March 2007) was an American blues harmonicist and vocalist.
Paul deLay continued touring and recording until his last illness. On March 7, 2007, following returning to Portland after a concert at Klamath Falls, Oregon, deLay began to feel sick and sought medical help. He was later diagnosed that he had leukemia at the end of its stage. He then fell into a coma which he was unable to recover. He passed away in Portland on the 7th of March 2007 at the age of 55.
The year 2002 saw deLay created the most recent version of the band including David Vest sharing lead vocals and playing piano. Peter Dammann on guitar, and Jeff Minnick and Dave Kahl on bass and drums. A live album featuring this group came out in the year 2007 making it into in the Top Ten on Billboard’s national blues chart.

His career in music began in the 1970s, with a band dubbed “Brown Sugar”, which performed at a variety of West Coast gigs. In 1976 the guitarist Jim Mesi formed the Paul deLay Blues Band. The group continued to perform well into the 1980s. They also recorded several albums in the period.
In the late 1980s deLay was suffering from cocaine and alcohol addiction. He was arrested in 1990. was detained for trafficking in drugs and sentenced to a prison sentence. He played in Prison at Walla Walla with Michael Morey of Seattle’s Alleged Perpetrators on bass. While in prison and his band remained without him, performing under the name of”the “No deLay Band” and with long- time Portland Blueswoman Linda Hornbuckle as the lead vocalist instead of deLay. Following being released from the prison deLay (now completely clean and sober) rejoined the group and recorded a string of critically highly acclaimed albums.
