Warwick Freeman is one of the most popular and richest Jewellery Designer who was born on January 5, 1953 in Nelson, New Zealand. Freeman was born in Nelson in 1953. He studied at Nelson College between 1966 until 1970. He began creating jewellery in collaboration with Peter Woods in Perth in 1972. After that, he moved back in New Zealand the following year and started an shop located in Nelson prior to moving into Auckland in the year 1975. In 1977, he was working together with Daniel Clasby, and with Jens Hansen in 1978. Freeman was a part of the Auckland-based jewellery cooperative Fingers between 1978 and 2003.
Freeman was one of the twelve jewelers selected for the prestigious 1998 Bone Stone Shell exhibition, created in New Zealand by the Craft Council for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and exhibited throughout Asia, Australia and New Zealand. He was awarded the 2002 won the Arts Foundation of New Zealand Laureate Award. The same year, he was named 2002 Laureate at the Francoise van den Bosch Foundation located at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.
Freeman was the founding chair of Auckland contemporary craft and design gallery Objectspace, and in 2013 became a Governor of the New Zealand Arts Foundation. In 2013 he was also the ‘featured master’ at the German contemporary jewellery festival Schmuck.
In 2014 Freeman co-curated Wunderrūma: New Zealand Jewellery with Karl Fritsch, a touring exhibition of New Zealand jewellery that showed at Galerie Handwerk in Munich as part of the Schmuck festival, at The Dowse Art Museum, and at the Auckland Art Gallery in 2015 .
The year was 1983. Freeman along with fellow jewelry maker Alan Preston were asked by Mack who was then the director of The Dowse Art Museum, to choose items in the Auckland Museum’s collections to be used in an exhibition held on display at The Dowse titled Pacific Adornment.
