Marilyn Suzanne Miller (born January 3 1950) is a famous American TV writer and producer. She was one of the three women on the initial team on Saturday Night Live and was also a writer on such 1970s sitcoms like The Odd Couple, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Rhoda, Maude, and Barney Miller.

On SNL Miller’s writing was featured as part of SNL’s “Judy Miller” and “Rhonda Weiss” sketch series and both of them to Gilda Radner. Miller worked along with Steve Martin and Dan Aykroyd on the “Festrunk Brothers” (“Wild and Crazy Guys”) sketches. The sketch was also written by her. iconic “Dancing in the Dark” sketch for Radner and Martin in 1978. In her time on SNL she received two Emmys and also received three additional nominations, in addition to receiving several Writers Guild of America Awards.

Miller was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer in 1992. She returned to the writing staff of SNL later that year. In 1998, she wrote an episode about breast cancer for Murphy Brown, winning a Humanitas Prize. In 2001, she won her third Writers Guild Award for SNL’s 25th anniversary show, Saturday Night Live 25.

In her role in her work on the Lily Tomlin special, Lily, Miller earned an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy, Variety or Music Special. One of the show’s producer, Lorne Michaels, was in charge of assembling the writers on Saturday Night Live, and the producer demanded Miller to be a part of the team. While she initially declined however, she was persuaded to join the original writing team when she was 25 years old. She was among only three female writers on the team alongside Anne Beatts and Rosie Shuster.

Miller is a native of Neptune, New Jersey, the youngest of four daughters of the late Dr. Norman R. Miller who was a psychologist, as well as Shirley M. Miller, editor and writer. Miller’s family relocated into Monroeville, Pennsylvania near Pittsburgh in the year she was a student at Gateway High School, graduating in 1967.
