Walter Schachner is one of the most popular and richest Football Manager who was born on February 1, 1957 in Leoben, Austria. Walter “Schoko” Schachner (born 1 February 1957 in Leoben, Austria) is a former football coach and player who was player for the Austrian national team.

When in 1981 Cesena received a promotion to Serie A, the ultras changed their name in 1981 to Weisschwarz Brigaden (meaning “Black-and-white Brigades” in German language) to honor Cesena, the Austrian forward. Cesena came back to Austria after 1988 shifting between clubs and generally within the 2nd division until ending his playing career at the age of 41 with Eintracht Wels.

In seasons 2000/2001 and 2001/2002 he coached FC Kärnten in the Austrian Football First League. Under his leadership the team got promoted to the Austrian Bundesliga and won the National Cup in the first year and the National Supercup in the second.

In the season 2002/2003 Schachner trained Austria Wien in Austrian Bundesliga until he was replaced by Christoph Daum in early October despite an excellent start of the season. At the time of his dismissal the team lead the championship with seven points ahead of second place and just defeated Ukrainian Champions Shakhtar Donetsk 5:2 in the UEFA Cup. A few days after his dismissal he was hired by Grazer AK, which held the penultimate place in the Austrian Bundesliga. The team finished the season in second place behind Austria Vienna.

In the 21st June 1978 match during the World Cup held in Argentina He was among the starting 11 members of the Austrian team that defeated reigning champions West Germany 3-2 and eliminated them from the tournament in a match that was dubbed “The Miracle of Cordoba”. In contrast, he was part of the Austrian team that fell one-to-one against West Germany in 1982 in the “Disgrace of Gijon” but was distinguished by his effort to perform a regular game.

The much-traveled Schachner began his professional football career at the local team Alpine Donawitz at 18 in the 1975/1976 season.
