His parents divorced at the age of six years old, and he moved into New York City, where he was taken care of by the mother of his father. Kroupa was the son to Czech music performer Zdenek Kroupa.

In the latter half of the 1980s and into the early 1990s, the computer underground was suffering through a series of long-running raids conducted by FBI, the Secret Service and FBI, known as Operation Sundevil and Operation Redux. A large number of Legion of Doom members were arrested and detained. This was in the midst of the largest and most significant conflict between gangs to ever take place in cyberspace, known as the Great Hacker War between LOD and their rival group MOD (Masters of Deceit).

Patrick Karel Kroupa (also known as Lord Digital, born January 20th 1969) is an American hacker, writer and activist. Kroupa was part of famous Legion of Doom and Cult of the Dead Cow hacker group and was the co-founder of MindVox in 1991, along with Bruce Fancher. Kroupa was an heroin user from the age of 14 until 30, and was able to get clean with the use of the hallucinogenic drug Ibogaine.
