Vange Leonel is one of the most popular and richest Activist who was born on May 4, 1963 in São Paulo, Brazil. Vange Leonel was born Sao Paulo in 1963; the great-granddaughter of General Atalio Leonel who fought during the1932 Constitutionalist Revolution, and cousin of the former Titas members Nando Reis. Her first musical endeavors included the post-punk group Nau (Portuguese meaning “carrack”), which was formed in 1985. Nau released their own album from CBS in 1987. They was also a part of this collection Nao Sao Paulo, Volume. 2 that was put out through Baratos Afins; however, Nau would split in 1989, when plans for a new studio album failed and Vange began an independent career.
Vange was first identified as lesbian in the year 1995, and from then on began to fight for the cause of gay people and women’s rights. In 1999, she published the first of her books, Lesbicas which was then followed by the book Grrrls Garotas Iradas in 2001 and Grrrrls: Garotas Iradas in 2001. Both writings she did for the now defunct LGBT publication Sui Generis from 1997 to 2000. The writer also contributed to Revista da Folha CartaCapital as well as Mix Brasil as well as with Cilmara Bedaque, she had a blog about beer called “Lupulinas”.
In 2000, she wrote her first theatre play, As Sereias da Rive Gauche, that was performed in the same year under Regina Galdino’s direction and published as a book in 2002. Her first and only novel, Balada para as Meninas Perdidas, was released in 2003.
Her fifth and last literary work was the play Joana Evangelista, which came out in 2006; a modern-day reimagining of Joan of Arc’s life, it deals with the theme of abortion.
Her debut solo album, Vange, was released in 1991 by Sony Music Entertainment, and it was the source of her most well-known hit track, “Noite Preta”, that was the theme for the opening sequence of the well-known Brazilian television show Vamp. A different track from of the album “Esse Mundo”, could be used as the opening theme of another telenovela called Perigosas Peruas.

Maria Evangelina Leonel Gandolfo (4 May 1963 14 July 2014) also often referred to by the name Vange Leonel. She was a Brazilian musician, singer-songwriter journalist, rhythm guitarist writer, chronicler, blogger and playwright, a beer sommelier, an activist for women’s and LGBT rights advocate. Her distinctive bluesy, soulful voice heavily imbued by Billie Holiday and Janis Joplin She was also popular for her work in the post-punk group Nau that was active between 1985 and 1989 and before launching a solo career in 1991.
Vange started a affair to Cilmara Bedaque in the year 1986, and the couple officially registered their domestic partnership in the year 1995. The relationship lasted until the time of Vange’s passing in 2014.
Her second solo release, the EP Vermelho, came out in 1996 by the independent label Medusa Records, founded by Vange and her domestic partner, journalist Cilmara Bedaque, in the same year. Bedaque also co-authored numerous of Vange’s songs since the times of Nau. Vermelho was not as well-regarded as her previous album though, and Vange abandoned the musical career to devote herself to literature.
