Mirza Masroor Ahmad is one of the most popular and richest Theologian who was born on September 15, 1950 in Rabwah, Pakistan. Mirza Masroor Ahmad, a nephew of Mirza Tahir Ahmad, was born in Rabwah, Pakistan on 15 September 1950. This is the global headquarters for the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. His mother, Mirza Tahir Ahmad (the fourth caliph), is his uncle. Masroor Ahmad graduated from Talim-ul-Islam High School. He also received his BA degree from Talim-ul-Islam College. Both are located in Rabwah. Masroor received his Master of Science in Agricultural Economics degree from Faisalabad University, Pakistan, in 1976.

1999 saw the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab present a resolution requesting that the name Rabwah be changed, as that name was used in the Qur’an. The resolution passed unanimously and Rabwah’s name was officially changed from Rabwah to Chenab Nagar. The new name was spelled out in signage that was posted in prominent areas of Rabwah. A First Information Report (criminal case) was filed a few days later accusing members of the Community with removing a sign bearing the new name. Although the complaint did not mention any names, a case against certain members of the Ahmadiyya Community was opened. This led to the arrests of Masroor Ahmad, and other senior Ahmadiyya Community members. They were held for 11 days without bail and were released on the 10th of May 1999.

Masroor Ahmad was elected as the fifth caliph on 22 April 2003, a few days after the demise of his predecessor Mirza Tahir Ahmad. Today he frequently tours around the world, visiting countries for the Community’s Jalsa Salanas (annual gatherings). Masroor Ahmad also regularly leads prayers at the Al-Fazl Mosque in London, England as well as Friday prayers from Baitul Futuh Mosque, in Morden, London.

In 2004, he launched – and regularly addresses – the annual National Peace Symposium (held twice in 2015) in which guests from all walks of life come together at the largest mosque in Western Europe (the Baitul Futuh Mosque) to exchange ideas on establishing world peace. These symposia have attracted parliamentarians, religious leaders and other dignitaries. In 2009, he initiated the Ahmadiyya Muslim Peace Prize; an international peace award for individuals or organisations that have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment and service to the cause of peace and humanitarianism.

Mirza Masroor Ahmad, who had served in Ghana shortly before, returned to Pakistan. He was appointed financial controller on 17 March 1985. He was also the Director of Education in the Community in Pakistan. On 10 December 1997, he was elected as Nazir A’ala (Principle Director) and local Ameer (“Local President”) until his election to the caliph.
