Trevor Cogger (born 30 January 1961) is an Australian former professional rugby league player who played in the 1980s as well as the 1990s. He was a player in the Western Suburbs Magpies. He played in 160 first-grade games during the New South Wales Rugby League premiership with the Magpies and is the fifth-highest players to be capped by the club. Cogger is also the club’s record for the most appearances across the various grades (308) in addition to scoring the highest number of tries for the club across every grade, with 88. This is more than the previous mark set by Peter Dimond.

While he was worried he might not be able to play under the his new head coach Warren Ryan, Cogger’s long first-grade football career concluded on a high note when he was picked to play center in the semi-finals of 1991 following the injuries sustained by Stan Presdee as well as Tony Cosatto. This was Wests first appearance in the finals since 1982. The year 1992 was the first time Cogger participated in the Wests reserve grade team, which played semi-final football.

Cogger made his grade debut in the year 1981. The year 1982 was the time he participated in his 3rd game in the season after being summoned to the sheds after eating an ice cream pie and relaxing after having completed the lower grade game. His summons was successful and led the team to a shocking victory (scoring two scores). He was named”the “Meat Pie Hero” in the Sydney Sun newspaper the following day. He later wrote, “It was at Lidcombe – I had played third grade at noon and by first-grade kick off I was sitting on the hill with my mates eating a pie. Our halfback, Alan Neil, got hurt early and went off. Then a few minutes later, Terry Lamb was carried off and all of a sudden there was an announcement on the public address system, ‘Would Trevor Cogger please report to the Wests dressing room immediately.'”

While Wests were not successful in 1980, Cogger scored 48 tries and scored 190 points over his career. He also captained the English league team Leigh throughout the Australian off-season between 1985 and 1986. In the course of one particularly cold game his hospitalisation was due to hypothermia.

He has a son, Jack Cogger, who started his career as a junior player with the Newcastle Knights in the National Rugby League competition and made his first grade debut in 2016. Jack Cogger has signed a two-year contract to play with the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs beginning in 2019.
